Sustainable packaging language

What is a sustainable packaging claim? How do I know if it’s true or ‘greenwashing’?

Sustainable packaging language and claims often refer to the material used or how the product could be disposed.

However, sustainable packaging language can often be vague or misleading, and not often substantiated with any fact or science-based evidence which is often referred to as ‘greenwashing’.

'Greenwashing' is where a business uses any claim, or omits key information, that makes a product or service seem better or less harmful for the environment than it really is.*

Detpak avoid ‘good’ or ‘bad’ judgements based upon just one aspect of a product’s sustainability e.g. made from renewables or home compostable. Instead claims presented are fact-based and traceable and cover sourcing to end-of-life disposal. Where specific claims are made, Detpak ensures that all relevant certifications have been passed or evidence is available so that customers can feel confident in choosing Detpak as their responsible packaging supplier.
