Appliance Suitability
Whether an item can be placed in the microwave, fridge or freezer, and time suitability.
Note on microwaves: The suitability of a product to be microwaved depends on the strength of the microwave oven, what food product is being microwaved, and for how long. Detpak recommends you test and validate the suitability of each product for use in microwaves for your own needs.
Any product printed with black ink should not be used in the microwave.
Australian Packaging Covenant
The Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) is an accreditation focusing on improved packaging design, away from home recycling, litter reduction and increased engagement across the supply chain through product stewardship.
Bagasse
Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcane or sorghum stalks are crushed to extract their juice. It is used as a biofuel and in the manufacture of pulp and building materials. Detpak uses bagasse material in board and paper to create packaging items from renewable sources.
Bioplastic
Natural starches or carbohydrates from plants like corn and sugarcane can be processed to create a clear, plastic-like film, or bioplastic, known as polylactic acid (PLA). Bioplastic can be used as a waterproof lining in cups and bowls. Crystallised polylactic acid (CPLA) is used for products that need to withstand higher temperatures, up to 85 degrees celcius, without warping, deforming or breaking. CPLA is used in cutlery and bowl lids.
Biodegradable
An item that can decompose or breakdown naturally, with microbial action. No industry standard exists for 'biodegradable' and this term can be confusing and misleading.
Carry weight
Maximum capacity of our paper bags with paper twist and flat fold handles, and D bags. Bags are tested with sandbags, with a small amount of agitation applied to simulate walking, until the bag fails.
Circular Economy
Decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources and designing waste out of the system. The circular model builds economic, natural, and social capital. It is based on three principles:
- Design out waste and pollution
- Keep products and materials in use
- Regenerate natural systems
Claycoat
A description generally used for any very smooth, white graphic paper. Claycoat can be printed with high resolution graphics.
Compostable
Products that will break down to natural elements within 90 days when treated in a commercial facility, as defined by European standard EN13432. They are suitable for treatment at a commercial composting facility where products are subject to optimum levels of sunlight, temperature, and moisture to break down.
Customisable
A product that can be customised from the standard stock range. This includes printing, materials, size, and other factors. Minimum Order Quantities apply.
DIFOT
Delivery in full on time.
Environmental Statements:
For our bag products, environmental statements apply when rope handles are removed and when the poly-patch is removed from some D bags. For products with a PE window, environmental statements apply when the window is removed.

Grease Resistant
Paper treated to prevent grease staining.
Greaseproof
Paper treated to be impermeable to oil and grease.
Handle type
We offer a range of handles on our paper bags. Each has its own benefits and properties. Tin-tie; Die-cut; Wire; Flat fold; Paper Twist; Rope.
HWS
High Wet Strength paper is 2.5 times as strong as normal paper when wet, identified with a slight pink twinge.
